June 27th, 2024, marked the end of a three-day soft skills training program sponsored by the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) in partnership with Kabarak University TVET Institute.
In her opening remarks, Madam Florence, representing the Federation of Kenya Employers, noted the need to equip trainees with the right skills to integrate into the job market seamlessly.
She emphasized that employers seek competent individuals with technical and soft skills, making this training essential.
Kabarak University TVET Institute was among the first institutions in Kenya selected for the training, which took place from Tuesday, June 25th, to Thursday, June 27th.
The training proved to be an eye-opener for our trainees in their final semesters of various programs. Students from ICT, Hospitality, Engineering, Social Sciences, and Business participated in the Soft Skills training, which covered the following areas:
- Communication Skills
- Office Etiquette and Professionalism
- Writing Skills and CV Writing
- Crafting a Compelling CV and its Attachment
- Report Writing and Presentation Skills
- Personal Grooming
- Teamwork
- And Others
The FKE team successfully trained over 100 students and 15 trainers from the TVET Institute.
This training provided a valuable opportunity for our students and staff to learn how to navigate the real world and seamlessly integrate into the industry, particularly regarding job application and workforce entry.
This initiative aligns perfectly with the institute's embrace of dual training. The training will equip students with the necessary skills as they transition into various Kenyan industries.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Dan Mutai, the Executive Director, encouraged the students to apply the acquired skills in the real world. He expressed his appreciation to the FKE team led by Madam Florence, the Rift Valley Regional Manager, and Mr. Duncan from the Project and Training Department in Nairobi, who, alongside Madam Florence, facilitated the three-day training. He applauded them for their support and time invested in the project.
Kabarak University TVET Institute is grateful to FKE for sponsoring and offering this valuable soft skills training to our students and staff. We look forward to fostering more collaborative projects in the future.
