Institute Accountant
Role Overview
The Institute Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the Kabarak University TVET Institute Limited, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective budget management, compliance with statutory requirements, and prudent financial stewardship in line with institutional policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
The core duties will focus on accounting and student finance:
- Financial Accounting & Reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, generate periodic financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annual), and ensure compliance with IFRS and University financial policies.
- Budgeting & Planning: Coordinate preparation of the Institute's annual budget, monitor budget performance, and provide variance analysis with recommendations.
- Revenue & Receivables: Oversee student billing, fee collection, receivables tracking, and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Expenditure & Payables: Verify and process supplier invoices, prepare payment schedules, and monitor expenditure alignment with approved budgets.
- Compliance & Audit: Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, including taxation, NHIF, and NSSF. Liaise with auditors and implement audit recommendations.
- Systems & Process: Maintain and update the Institute’s financial management system and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- CPA(K) or equivalent professional qualification is mandatory.
Experience:
- At least 3 years’ relevant accounting experience, preferably in an educational institution.
- Proven experience in budget management, financial reporting, and statutory compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- High integrity and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in accounting software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy and timeliness of financial reports.
- Budget variance kept within approved limits.
- Compliance with statutory and audit requirements.
- Timely collection of fees and settlement of payables.
- Efficient record management and reporting systems.
Remuneration and Terms of Employment
The appointment will be on a contractual basis for an initial period of six (6) months, renewable by mutual agreement and subject to a satisfactory performance review. A competitive compensation package will be offered to the successful candidates.
